Die Bedeutung der Atmung für Körper, Energie und spirituelles Wachstum
Dear Yogis and Yoginis
Breathing is one of the most fundamental yet often overlooked functions of our body. It not only provides us with essential oxygen but also plays a crucial role in our energy and spiritual growth.
The importance of breathing for our body
Breathing is the first and last act of life. With every breath, we take in oxygen, which is necessary for energy production in our cells. Without effective breathing, our body cannot function optimally. Conscious breathing improves lung capacity, strengthens the immune system, and promotes overall health.
Breathing and energy
In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, breathing is described as the key to controlling prana, the life force energy.
Sutra 2.49 states: "Tasmin sati shvasa prashvasa yor gati vicchedah pranayamah" –
When the posture (asana) is steady, control of inhalation and exhalation (pranayama) follows.
Through pranayama techniques, we learn to direct our breath and thus regulate the flow of energy in the body. Conscious breathing can invigorate us, increase our energy levels, and help us feel more centered and balanced—so that we can begin to truly heal ourselves.
Spiritual growth through breathing
Breathing is not just a physical process but also a gateway to deeper spiritual understanding. In the ancient Vedic texts and Upanishads, breathing is described as the bridge between the physical and the spiritual self. Conscious breathing opens the mind, enhances concentration, and supports meditation.
Sutra 2.52 states: "Tatah kshiyate prakasavaranam" –
Through this practice, the veil (maya) that covers the light (of wisdom) is destroyed.
With regular breath awareness and practice, we gain clarity and deeper insight into our true nature.
Breath is NO Work – Breathing is Joy
Often, we hear the term “Breath Work”, but I invite you to experience breathing differently—with ease, joy, and reverence. There’s a reason why we follow pranayama and not “breathwork” in my classes. The ancient texts are clear: working with the breath is a sacred process. It opens doors within us—and sometimes, too fast.
In traditional yogic teachings, there are even warnings: if we "get high" or euphoric through breath without the grounding and preparation of the nervous system, we might not be ready for what comes up. The breath is powerful, yes—but it also needs to be approached with patience, presence, and care.
Life itself is a journey of healing and becoming whole again.
Give it time. Go at your own pace.
That is the secret—and that is where real transformation and success live.
With every inhalation, we receive a new chance. With every exhalation, we let go of what no longer serves us.
We breathe life in and out—so make it count.
Discover the Power of Conscious Breathing. I warmly invite you to explore this sacred path of breath with me—through regular classes or my pranayama workshops. Let's dive into the ancient wisdom of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and discover the beauty, softness, and vitality that conscious breathing brings to our lives.
