Above the fog – a january walk in Flüeli-Ranft

Sometimes life doesn’t speak through big answers, but through simple steps. That’s how it feels when I walk in Flüeli-Ranft. Every time I’m there, something unfolds — quietly, honestly, deeply.

This weekend, I was there again, held by the unique atmosphere of the silent retreat and by all the participants who stepped into this shared space of presence and listening. Within this collective field, I went for a walk with Heidi.

For her, the silent retreat in January has become a ritual. “It’s like the magic of December,” she said, “just stretched a little longer.” I lovingly call her the Invincible — for her presence, her openness, and with the depth with which she meets life. We started walking. Dynamic, yet unforced. A walk that could take three hours — we completed it in two.
Not because we rushed, but because we were fully there.

We were above the fog. Down in the valley it lay like a quiet sea, while up there the sky was blue and the sun warmed our faces. Slowly, the fog began to rise.

We walked side by side in silence. And then, as if the path was smiling, IIamas appeared. Not one or two — seven I smiled. Once, you had to travel to Peru to see llamas. Turns out, a walk in the pre-Alps is enough.

Soon after, we witnessed something I had never truly paused to observe before: herding dogs at work. Focused. Alert. Fully present. Guiding the sheep, gathering them, ensuring none were lost.

Then silence again. Horses along the way. Sunlight on the skin. And suddenly, fog. Only the next step was visible.

And there it was — this gentle realization: This is life. You don’t always see ahead. You don’t know what’s coming. But you keep walking. You may feel tired.
Heavy.
Uncertain.

And still, you move forward. Step by step.

We emerged from the fog, and it felt like a curtain lifting.
Light. Space. Beauty. A moment captured by Heidi.

Another unforgettable day of this retreat. Held by community. By nature. And by the quiet magic that arises when people walk this path together.

Maybe life isn’t about constant sunshine. Maybe it’s about presence
and finding joy in every single step.

Much Love,

Rose 🌹
